read back a whole conversation last night and had a bad ten minutes about it.
every message i send is grammatically perfect, correctly punctuated, warm in a sort of careful way, and completely dead. i say things like i hope your week has improved. i thank people for their replies. at one point i wrote i wanted to circle back on something you mentioned, to a woman i was hoping would find me interesting.
i am 44 and i have written work emails for two decades, so i know where it comes from. what i cannot do is turn it off. when i try to be casual it reads as somebody impersonating a casual person, which is worse.
does this actually matter? nobody has said anything, and i have had reasonable conversations. but i notice they never quite catch fire and i wonder if this is why.
if you have fixed this, what did you change? and if you receive messages like mine, what do they read as from your side.
