hour between us by train, which is not long distance but is far enough that this is a decision rather than a detail.
she suggested i come to her, which is reasonable, she suggested it first and she knows a place. and i noticed a small hesitation in myself that i have been trying to interpret ever since.
it is not that i think she is dangerous. it is that in her city i do not know the streets, i do not know which pub is the one to avoid, and my way home is one specific train from one specific station and everything is arranged around it. in my own town i can end an afternoon whenever i like and be home in twenty minutes.
i also do not want to be the person who makes a whole negotiation out of a coffee.
so what do people do here? is there a convention? somewhere in the middle feels fussy for a first meeting and also feels like the sensible answer, which is an uncomfortable combination.
