not sure what the right thing to do here is and i would like some other heads on it.

i have been talking to a man from the next town for about three weeks. going well. we have talked about meeting.

on saturday somebody at the munch, who i know slightly and have no reason to distrust, said something to me along the lines of, oh, be careful with him. i asked what they meant and got a bit vague. something about a situation a couple of years ago and somebody who left the scene afterwards. no names, no detail, and when i pushed a little it turned into i probably should not say more.

so now i have a warning with nothing inside it.

if i take it seriously i am cancelling on somebody who has done nothing i can point to on the strength of a sentence at a pub. if i ignore it i am ignoring exactly the sort of thing this community supposedly exists to pass along.

what do people do with this? is there a way to check without turning it into a whole thing? and how much weight does a vague warning from one person actually deserve.

What the handbook says about this

Scene talk is mostly about doors: who gets filtered out on sight, who lives too far from any of it, what a silence at the end of a good conversation is made of, and what the community does and does not remember about the people in it.
