keep writing this line and then deleting it before i save.

the line is that i am looking for something ongoing rather than a string of one-offs. that is genuinely what i want. i am 39, i have done the other thing, and i would like to be someone’s actual person rather than an entry in a rotation.

every time i put it in i then imagine somebody reading it and hearing a clock ticking. it feels like arriving at a party and announcing your intentions in the hallway.

so it comes out, and then my profile says nothing about what i want, and then i spend six weeks talking to someone lovely and discover we were doing completely different things.

does stating it cost you? has anyone put a plain sentence about wanting something lasting on a profile and had it work, or does it just thin the inbox down to people who are also anxious about it.

What the handbook says about this

Both halves of the problem end up on this board: a profile that says nothing, and an opener that goes nowhere. Underneath both is usually the same worry about being found by the wrong person, so that one is here too.
