New at this, and we would like somebody to be unkind about it

We are new, we are probably doing several things wrong, and what we want is somebody experienced who will tell us so without being kind about it.
Twenty eight and twenty nine, together three years, west end. This started last autumn after a conversation neither of us expected, and since then it has been the two of us at home, reading too much and guessing.
The specific thing we want is a conversation. What people negotiate and how. What we should have agreed before starting anything. What somebody wishes they had been told at the beginning. We are not asking anybody to demonstrate and we are not asking to be taken in hand. We would like a couple of hours with somebody who knows, and we will buy the coffee.
We are wary of one thing and we will say it plainly. We have read enough to know that being new and enthusiastic makes people a target, and that whoever offers to educate you is not always doing only that. So we would want to meet in public, both of us, more than once.
Not looking to be flattered. Not looking for anyone who wants to be our first anything. Not looking for advice from somebody who started eighteen months ago and has strong views about it.
