First time posting anything like this and I can tell it shows

I have started this four times. The other versions sounded like somebody trying to seem experienced, which I am not, so this one only says true things.
Twenty four, Houston, and I have never done any of this with another person. About a year of reading, a lot of it contradictory. I have a fairly clear sense of what I am drawn to and no idea whether the reality resembles the idea, which I gather is normal and still worries me. What I am drawn to is following instructions from somebody who is actually paying attention. Structure. Being useful. I do not think I am after heavy pain, and honestly I do not know, because I have never tested it.
What I am nervous about is being the kind of beginner who is a burden. Experienced people get a great many messages from young men who want to be handed a fantasy, and I would like not to be one of those. I am prepared to be patient, to be told no, and to be told I have got something wrong. Houston is supposed to be big enough that this is easy, and I still find the whole thing intimidating. Everyone seems to already know each other and to have done for years, and I do not know how a person gets from outside that to inside it without being annoying.
Things I do have: a job, my own place, a car, and no illusion that this happens quickly. Things I do not have: a single friend who knows I am writing this.
