Forty years married, five years into this, and cross that we waited

- Looking for
- another couple of roughly our vintage, for company and conversation
- Experience
- Five years, taught ourselves from books, no experience of anybody else.
- Around
- the Black Country, Birmingham
We married in the seventies and we found this in our sixties, which we now regard as a considerable waste of the intervening decades. It began with a book one of us was too embarrassed to leave lying about, and it has made the best five years of an already good marriage.
Sixty five and sixty seven, the Black Country, both retired, one of us still doing a couple of days for a former employer purely out of habit.
He leads and I do not, and we arrived there without knowing that anybody else did it or that there was a name for any of it. Most of what we know we worked out between ourselves, which means it suits us exactly and is probably eccentric by everyone else's standards.
What we would like is another couple of roughly our own generation. Not to do anything with: we are quite content in that department and we are not looking to add a third person or a fourth. We would like to be able to talk about it with people who understand, because at present the only two people in the world who know are the two of us, and after five years that has begun to feel like a small silence in an otherwise noisy life.
We are not remotely embarrassed and we will discuss anything. Not looking for anybody who wants to instruct us. And not looking for a couple in their thirties who find us charming, which has already happened twice and was lovely and slightly wearing.
