Houston switch, forty three, allergic to the entire month of January

Every January this city fills up with pollen and I become a man who cannot finish a sentence. I mention it because it is genuinely the worst thing about me, and it seems only fair to lead with the worst thing.

Forty three. Houston. Switch, and my split is roughly two thirds toppy and one third the other, though the ratio moves depending on how the year is going. I have been at this about a decade. Nothing in my history is dramatic. Two long things, several short ones, no horror stories, which I am told is unusual enough to be worth stating out loud.

What I like is the daft part. The bit where something has gone slightly wrong and you both start laughing and have to stop for a minute. I have met people who treat all of this with the solemnity of a legal proceeding and I respect them and I could not do it. What I want is a partner who can be serious when it counts and silly the rest of the time. Ongoing, not one night. I am not good at casual. I have tested this repeatedly, I always get attached and then get strange about it.

I cook badly and with enormous confidence. I have a truck that has been about to fail for three years. My friends describe me as low maintenance and high volume.

If any of this made you laugh, that is a promising sign for both of us.
