My wife died two years ago after a long illness and a good marriage, and she knew this about me for the last decade of it, and we never did anything about it because there was always something more pressing. I am putting that at the top because the rest of this post rests on it.
Sixty, and my experience is easy to summarise: none. I have wanted this since I was young enough not to have a word for it. I have read for thirty years. I have never knelt for anybody and I have never negotiated anything.
The practical difficulty is that my two children and three grandchildren live within fifteen minutes of me and I see them constantly, which I would not change for anything, and which means my life has very little unobserved space in it. Weekday afternoons are mine. Almost nothing else reliably is.
What I would like is a dominant woman willing to teach an absolute beginner, slowly, without finding the whole situation either tragic or charming. I would like structure, service and rules, and I would like to be told when I have done something properly, which is an odd thing to advertise for and I am doing it anyway.
Not looking for anyone who wants to talk about my wife beyond the once. Not looking to be anybody's late life project. Not looking for a person who assumes a man of sixty starting out must be desperate, because I am not desperate. I am simply out of reasons to keep waiting.
