We live in the middle of everything, and it defines how we do this

Nobody who comes to see us has to cross this city to do it. We are in the middle, on two lines, twenty minutes from wherever almost anybody lives. We have built our entire social life in this on that single fact, and it works better than anything either of us managed when we lived out at the ends of it.
We are thirty six and thirty eight, together nine years, and for the last four he has led and I have not. What we discovered when we moved here for work is that people are perfectly willing to travel if the meeting point is obviously fair, and that nobody ever feels like the one making the effort.
So this is a post from the middle. We would like to know a third person, over a long period, with no hurry at all: somebody who becomes a friend first, sees us both regularly, and possibly in time becomes part of the dynamic in a way we would all three have to talk about for months.
We have done this once and it lasted two years and ended when she moved abroad, and we are still in touch, and she would say good things about us if I could ask her to. We are boring in the best sense. Weeknights at home, long lunches at the weekend, a spare room, no drama available at any price.
Not looking for anyone who wants a fortnight. Not looking for anyone who assumes the woman in a couple is the one being persuaded, because in this house it is the opposite and always has been.
