The visible part of this city's scene is much smaller than the city is. Once you have been around for a few years you discover it is essentially eleven people who have all, at some point, been involved with each other, and any new introduction comes with three prior histories attached to it.
Thirty five, Wynwood, switch, eight years in.
I am not complaining about anybody. I am one of the eleven and I have contributed my share of the tangle. But I have reached the point where every plausible person in my immediate circle is either an ex, an ex of an ex, or somebody I would have to have an awkward conversation about with a friend first, and it has made me tired.
So I am doing the thing I avoided for years, which is posting publicly rather than relying on the network, in the hope of meeting somebody who has been quietly getting on with this outside the visible circle.
I go both ways, genuinely, and I lean toward leading with people newer than me. What I want is something with real structure and a slow build, not an evening.
If you know me, and you might, please be normal about it. And if you are writing because you want to know about somebody else in that circle, I will not discuss them, and I would rather not be asked.
