Eleven years, every partner met through a written conversation like this one.

I will not go to anything with more than two people at it. That is not shyness. I tried the social side of this for two years in my early thirties and found that I hate every part of it: the introductions, the standing about, the way a room full of people who all know each other handles a newcomer.

Forty, the east end, switch, eleven years. I am perfectly sociable in ordinary life. Something about the specific combination of this subject and a group turns me into a person watching the door.

The consequence is that I have never met anybody the way most people here seem to. Everybody I have been with came out of a written conversation like this one, which makes boards the only route I have, and it is why I keep coming back to them even when they are dispiriting.

What I want is one person, private, long, and ordinary in shape. Both directions, though I lead more often with somebody who is new to me, and that has never reversed itself as often as I keep expecting it to.

Practical: the east end, I live alone, I can host and I would much prefer to. My schedule is regular and dull. Not looking for anybody whose main interest is going to things together, because that is a large part of what many people want and it is completely absent in me. Not looking to be persuaded that the right group would change my mind about this.
