first proper post, apologies if this is a stupid question.

every site i have looked at wants me to pick a role before it will let me do anything else. dominant, submissive, switch, and then a longer list of things i half recognise from reading. and i genuinely do not know. i have been reading about all this for about six months and i have leanings, but they are leanings, not a category.

what worries me is that it sits at the top of the profile like a declaration. if i pick one and get it wrong, i am not just wrong in my own head, i have told a few hundred strangers something untrue about myself and they have decided things about me based on it.

is this a thing people agonise over or is it just a filter and nobody cares? can you change it later without it looking odd? and does anyone just leave it blank, or does a blank one read as somebody who has not thought about it?

What the handbook says about this

Everyone on this board is standing at the same door with a different reason for not opening it. The handbook takes the three in order: what the thing actually is, the routes people take to meet anyone, and the slower version where the person you want to explore with is already in the house.
