need other people’s heads on this because mine has been talked into circles.
been talking to someone for about three weeks. articulate, warm, clearly experienced, and he has made a genuinely well constructed case for why our first meeting should be at his place or a hotel rather than a cafe.
his arguments, and i want to represent them fairly. one, a public first meeting means we spend two hours making small talk over a table when what we both actually want to discuss cannot be discussed in a cafe. two, he is careful about discretion and would rather not be seen. three, that the sort of dynamic we have been talking about does not really translate to a coffee shop and starting there sets the wrong tone.
none of that is stupid. that is what is bothering me. if it were stupid i would have said no on tuesday.
what i notice is that i keep coming back to it, and that every time i say something about wanting to meet publicly first he has a considered answer ready, and that after each exchange i feel slightly less sure of myself than i did before.
am i being naive or is he? tell me plainly, i would rather be told off here than work it out later.
