long time lurker, first post. i’m 31 and i’ve known this side of me existed since basically forever, but i’ve never done anything about it. no scene experience, no kinky friends, dating history entirely vanilla and entirely from the big apps.

every time i try to start i freeze at the same question: start where? do i make a profile on a kink site and just say hi to strangers? do i find some local group and show up knowing nobody? do i read for six months first? every guide assumes you’ve already picked a lane and i can’t even find the road.

also, being honest, part of the freeze is fear. fear of doing something wrong, of being laughed at for being clueless, of running into someone from work. is that normal or is that its own thing i need to sort out before any of the rest?

what was your actual first step, the real one, not the tidy version you tell people now?

What the handbook says about this

Everyone on this board is standing at the same door with a different reason for not opening it. The handbook takes the three in order: what the thing actually is, the routes people take to meet anyone, and the slower version where the person you want to explore with is already in the house.
