did the thing everyone says to do. made a profile. picked a handle, wrote a couple of paragraphs, no face photo, nothing identifying.

lasted four days.

on the fourth evening i deleted the whole account. not because anything bad happened, because nothing happened at all. two messages, both perfectly polite. it was more that every time i opened the site i had this feeling of standing in a lit window, and i could not get rid of it, and on thursday it got loud enough that deleting felt like the only way to make it stop.

now i am sitting here two weeks later still wanting the thing i wanted when i made it, and knowing i will have to do the whole first evening again, which somehow feels worse the second time.

has anyone else done this? did you go back? and is there a smaller version of putting yourself out there that i skipped straight past.

What the handbook says about this

Everyone on this board is standing at the same door with a different reason for not opening it. The handbook takes the three in order: what the thing actually is, the routes people take to meet anyone, and the slower version where the person you want to explore with is already in the house.
