Six months here and six months on the other side of the world

- the ring, Amsterdam
Half of my year is spent here and the other half with my daughter and her family on the other side of the world. That has been the shape of things since I retired and it is not changing, so anybody writing to me should know it before anything else.
Sixty two, dominant man, just outside the ring, thirty one years in. Two long dynamics, one of nine years and one of six.
What I am proposing is unusual and I have done it once, successfully. Six months here, in person, weekly, with a real structure. Then six months of the same dynamic conducted entirely in writing: tasks set, reports sent, expectations held, a call when the hours line up. The person I did it with maintained that the written half was the stronger of the two, which surprised us both.
It asks a great deal. It asks for somebody who can hold a structure across an absence and who will not experience the absence as abandonment, and there is no way to know that about a person until it is happening.
Not looking for anybody who needs frequent physical contact to feel connected, since for half the year there will be none. Not looking for a person who would want to visit, which I could not accommodate. Not looking to begin anything in the eight weeks before I go, because that is a bad way to start and I have already made that mistake.
