Berlin, married twenty eight years, and we have questions

We are in our fifties and we started this six months ago, which we understand is a slightly comic thing to write. The children are grown and gone and it turned out we had a conversation waiting.
She raised it. He was relieved rather than shocked, which was the first surprise. Since then we have been reading, trying small things, and getting stuck in the same place every time, which is that we know nobody and cannot tell whether what we are doing is normal, safe or ridiculous.
So this is a request for a mentor couple. People who have done this for years, who would meet us for dinner, let us ask basic questions, and say honestly when the answer is that we are overthinking it. We would be good company. We are curious and we do not embarrass easily any more, which is one advantage of being this age.
We are not asking to play with anybody and we would not know what to do if the offer arrived. We might feel differently in two years. We would rather say that plainly than imply more in order to get replies. Berlin, both still working, discreet because of his job rather than out of shame.
We would want to meet somewhere public, and we will probably arrive early and be nervous. If you have been in this twenty years and find beginners tiresome, we entirely understand, and we hope somebody else does not.
