I coached for ten years, and this is not the same, but it rhymes

For ten years I coached a junior side and then an adult one, and the thing I was actually good at was knowing how hard to push a particular person on a particular day. Some of them needed telling. Some needed leaving alone entirely. Getting that wrong once could cost you somebody for a whole season, and occasionally for good.
Thirty four, Solihull, four years in on this side of things, one dynamic that ran three of them.
I want to be careful about the comparison, because authority in a sport is not the same as authority in this, and I have watched two men on this board run the two together in ways I found uncomfortable to read. Nobody here is being managed for their own good, and anybody offering that should be avoided. What actually carries across is narrower: reading a person accurately, holding a standard without being unpleasant about it, and knowing the precise moment to stop.
What I would like is a submissive who is trying to get better at something, whatever that something is, and who wants that to be part of what we do together. It does not have to be physical and in the one dynamic I have had it mostly was not. I am at my best when there is a direction rather than a mood, and I am fairly useless at an evening with no shape to it.
Not looking for anybody who wants to be broken down and rebuilt, a phrase I have now read four times on here and dislike more on each occasion. Not looking for a scene once a month. And not interested in being called coach, which two people have already suggested and which makes me want to emigrate.
