- Twenty years for him, five months for her, eighteen months as a couple.

- the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham
We met eighteen months ago and he told me about this in the second month, carefully, plainly braced for it to end the conversation. It did not. What it did was open up six months of me thinking, three more of the two of us talking, and then in March I asked to try something and learned a great deal about myself in about an hour.
Forty and fifty one, the Jewellery Quarter, together eighteen months and living together since the spring.
The odd part is the gap in experience. He has twenty years of this and has known most of his friends through it. I have five months and have met nobody. When he explains how something is done I have to keep asking whether that is how it is done or how he does it, and to his credit he cannot always tell either.
So what we would like is other people. Not to play with, at least not for a long time. To know. I would like to meet people who were doing this before I existed and hear how they started, and find out how much of what I have been told is universal. He would like his two worlds to stop being kept in separate rooms.
He leads, and that was settled between us quickly and easily. Not looking for anybody who wants to demonstrate anything to me. Not looking for a third. And not looking for anyone who treats five months as though it were five minutes, because I have learned a lot in them.
