Two years here from the west coast and the caution still surprises me

- Looking for
- somebody who will explain the local rules to me without being smug about it
- Experience
- Eleven years, most of it somewhere considerably more relaxed.
- Around
- uptown, Dallas
Where I came from, people put this on a profile with their face attached and nothing happened to them. Two years in this metro and I have learned that the same behaviour here would be a genuinely bad idea for a lot of the people I have met, and it took me an embarrassingly long time to stop treating that as timidity.
Thirty eight, uptown, switch, eleven years. The company moved me and I intend to stay, because the work is good and I bought a house at a price that would have been a garage back home.
What I am still adjusting to is the pace of it. Conversations here take longer, people establish a lot before they will meet, and everybody has a boundary about their employer that I did not previously have to think about. I am not complaining. I am saying I probably still get it wrong and I would rather be told than quietly written off.
What I want is a long dynamic, both directions, with somebody who has been here a while. I lead slightly more than I follow. I am interested in protocol and service and not much interested in pain.
I will happily be the one who drives, since I have no attachment yet to any particular part of this metro and I find the whole thing weirdly interesting. Not looking for anybody who wants to hear about how we did it back there, which I have now learned is tedious. Not looking to be somebody's introduction to a different way of doing things.
