Sixty one, I want to belong somewhere, and I am keeping my flat

- a place in someone's household without giving up my own
- Experience
- Twenty six years, two long arrangements, the second of them fifteen.
- Around
- the east of the city, Hamburg
Twice in my life I have belonged to a household and both times it was the best arrangement I have known. Both times I also kept my own flat, my own money and my own front door, and I am convinced that is exactly why they lasted.
Sixty one, retired from the city administration two years ago, east of the city, in a flat with too many books in it. Twenty six years in this. The second arrangement ran fifteen years and ended when he moved to be near his daughter, and we still write.
What I would like is the same shape again. A defined role in somebody's week. Duties that are mine and that nobody else does. A standing evening, a review every few months, and the ordinary business of being useful to a person who notices whether the thing got done.
I am not interested in living with anybody, at any point, and I want to say so at the top rather than let it emerge as a disappointment in month four. I like my own company. I simply do not want all of it.
I can cross the city easily and I have more free time than anyone I know. Not looking for anything sexual, though I am not squeamish and it is not a wound. Not looking for a person who wants a housekeeper and has dressed it up as something else. And not looking to be somebody's introduction to older women, which has been proposed to me twice this year in almost those words.
