Twice I have ended up in a dynamic with somebody from my own industry and both times the whole thing slowly became a longer version of a working day. The same complaints, the same names, the same weary jokes. I liked both of them enormously. I could not breathe.
Thirty three, dominant, Altona, nine years in. I work in advertising, which in this city is a village pretending to be an industry, and everybody is about two steps from everybody.
So: please be a nurse, a joiner, a driver, a teacher, a person who repairs machines. Please have opinions about something I know nothing about. I am not being quaint about work with hands in it. I simply want a private life that is not adjacent to my professional one.
What I want inside that is a long dynamic with structure. Standing rules, service, a set evening, correction that is verbal. I am reasonably strict and completely unpretentious about it. The second reason for the rule is discretion. If we do not share a professional world, nothing can travel through it, and I learned that the hard way across one very uncomfortable spring three years ago.
Not looking for anybody who wants me to look at their portfolio, which I say with love and complete seriousness. Not looking for a person who works in media in any capacity. Not looking for anything that involves being seen at industry things, which I attend and dislike.
