New to Houston, know nobody, would honestly settle for friends

I moved here in January for a job and I have made exactly two friends, one of whom is my neighbour and does not really count.
Back where I came from I had a whole circle. Not a big one, but people I could ask things, people who would tell me if somebody was a problem before I found out for myself. Losing that has been worse than losing the city. I had not realised how much of feeling safe in this was simply knowing who everybody was.
Thirty one, switch, mostly on the receiving end, though I have topped a few people I trusted and liked it more than I expected to. That is not really the point of this post. The point is that I would like to know people. Coffee, a walk, a conversation where I do not have to explain the basics first. If something else comes out of that eventually then good, but I am specifically not asking for a partner right now, because I have noticed that when I go looking for one out of loneliness I choose badly.
I am aware this is an odd thing to post on a personals board. I did think about that for a while before posting it.
Houston, north side. I will drive across the city, I have already accepted that everything here is forty minutes away. I am bad at texting and much better in person, which is a difficult combination on the internet.
