Every arrangement I have had has started with a document. Not a legal one, obviously, and not a novelty contract with silly clauses in it. Two or three pages that say what is expected, what is off the table, how often we talk, and how either of us ends it without it becoming a row. I have done four and I have never once regretted the hour it took.
Fifty four, Wirral, dominant man, twenty five years in. I spent my working life in shipping, where nobody moves anything without paperwork, and it has clearly leaked into the rest of me.
What I want is a long service arrangement with a woman who wants the same. Standing duties, regular evenings, a review every three months where we both say what is not working. I am not cold, whatever this post suggests. I am simply of the view that most of the damage done in this world happens in the gap between what one person assumed and what the other one meant.
I will travel to the city or to Manchester, and I would expect the same in return sometimes.
Not looking for anybody who finds the writing part unromantic. Not looking to skip a negotiation because we get on well, which is exactly when people skip it. Not looking for anything that has to start this month.
