I learned this in a world with no internet in it, from people who were serious and slow and who would have found most of what I read on here faintly hysterical. I am aware that makes me sound like a monument. I have decided to lean into it rather than apologise.
Sixty two, dominant, up the hill, twenty eight years. Four arrangements, two of them over a decade, and one of those ended when she died, which I mention once and will not be dwelling on.
What I do: formality, address, standing rules, service, correction that is spoken and occasionally applied. Long stretches of ordinary domestic time, because that is where any of this actually lives. I write letters, sometimes on paper, and I am told this is either the best or the strangest thing about me depending on who is asked.
What I do not do: anything invented recently, anything with an audience, anything discussed publicly, and anything requiring me to have opinions about equipment. I am open to being shown things and unlikely to adopt them.
I have watched this city's small world rearrange itself three or four times and I have outlasted most of the arguments. Not looking for anyone under about forty five, which is not about attraction but about having lived through the same weather. Not looking for a correspondence that never becomes a meeting. Not looking to be treated as a curiosity from an earlier era, though I concede I have rather invited it.
