My job involves deciding things about people who cannot refuse, and then writing it down. I am careful with that at work and I am careful with it here, and one of the ways I stay careful is by refusing, absolutely, to have a private life anywhere near my professional one.
Forty one, dominant, the 7th, thirteen years in. Three years ago a dynamic ended when the person turned out to be two steps from an employer I deal with constantly. Nobody did anything wrong. It simply became impossible, in the way things become impossible in a city where everyone's second cousin works in the same building.
So the rule is simple. If you work in personnel, in law, at any of the large employers in the south of the city, or anywhere I might see your name on a document, we should not do this. I know it sounds arbitrary. It is the difference between an interest and a problem.
What I want is a long dynamic. Standing rules, service, an evening a week that does not move, correction that is verbal and specific. I am strict about consistency and relaxed about nearly everything else.
Not looking for anybody who would like advice about their own workplace, which I will not give and which has been asked for three times. Not looking to be visible anywhere. Not looking for someone who finds the caution excessive, because it is the reason I have done this for thirteen years without a single difficult morning.
