I swim every morning, all year, in an unheated pool with the sky over it, including the ten weeks when it is genuinely unpleasant, with a group of people whose names I know and whose lives I do not. That is my entire social calendar and I am aware of how that sounds at sixty two.
I retired four years ago from a job that had eaten most of my adult life. I was married twice, both times to women who knew about this and participated in it, and I have been on my own since the second one ended amicably nine years ago. I am not sad about any of it. I am simply short of people.
Switch, thirty five years, and at this point far more interested in the following half. What I want, in the order I want it: somebody to talk to regularly, then somebody to spend afternoons with, then possibly a dynamic. I have put those in that order deliberately, because I have watched too many people my age try to reverse them and end up with neither.
I am healthy, I am not looking after anybody, I have a car and time and no obligations whatsoever between Monday and Friday. I should say that I do not go out at night much any more. If your life happens after eleven we will struggle, and that is not a judgement, it is just a fact about my eyes and my back.
I would be glad of a letter that is longer than three lines. That is genuinely most of what I am asking for.
