Fifty two, English, four years here and I still know nobody

- someone patient with a foreigner who is trying properly
- Experience
- Twenty years at home. Four years here and nothing at all.
- Around
- the north of the city, Madrid
I sold a house in the north of England after my divorce and came here for the light, which is a cliché I walked into with my eyes open and have never once regretted. What I did not think about, at all, was that I had also left behind twenty years of knowing exactly who to ring.
Fifty two, submissive, four years in Madrid, and in that time I have had precisely one conversation with anybody about this and it went nowhere. My Spanish is worse than it should be after four years. I take a class twice a week and I am improving slowly and I am not going to pretend I could negotiate anything delicate in it yet.
At home I had a dynamic that ran nine years. Service, protocol, a household run to somebody else's standard. I was very good at it. It is strange to be starting from nothing at my age with all of that experience behind me and no way to demonstrate any of it.
What I would like is a Spanish dominant, honestly, rather than another foreigner, because I did not move here to live in a bubble. I would need patience about language for a while, and I would rather be corrected than accommodated.
I live alone in a flat I own, I can host, I am free almost all the time, and I have adjusted to eating at ten at night, which took about two years. Not looking for someone who wants an English conversation partner with a hobby attached.
