I am up at five and I am no use to anybody after about two in the afternoon. That is not a preference I could be talked out of, it is what forty years of early shifts has done to me, and every arrangement I have had since retiring has worked in the morning or not at all.
Fifty eight, Stockport, dominant, twenty nine years in this. I was an engineer. I write things down, I keep to what I have written, and I have been told more than once that I run a dynamic like a maintenance schedule. I take that as a compliment and I understand it is not always meant as one.
What I am offering is a formal arrangement with a proper agreement, a review every three months, and standards that do not move because one of us has had a bad week. What I want in return is service and structure in the ordinary sense: order, punctuality, tasks completed properly, and honest reporting when they are not.
This obviously suits a narrow set of people. Shift workers on nights, anyone retired, people who work from home and can give me a morning a week. If your life happens between nine and six, we will not manage it, and I would rather say that here than three weeks in.
Not looking for anything at short notice. Not looking for someone who wants to be a project. Not looking to be anybody's first experience of this, because a beginner deserves more patience than I have got left.
