He arrived here three years ago and thinks it is the easiest place on earth to meet anybody. I was born forty minutes from where we live and I have watched people I liked leave for twenty years. Both of those are true at once and they are why this post took a month to write.
Thirty three and thirty eight, Wynwood, together seven years, four of them with this between us.
His version: meet people, meet plenty of them, find out quickly, no harm done. My version: one connection, built over a year, with people who will still be here when it is built. We have had the argument enough times to know that neither of us is going to talk the other one round, and it has never once been bitter, which is the only reason we can put it in an advertisement.
The compromise we have reached is that we do it my way first. One couple, or one person, several unhurried meetings before anything, and if in three months it has come to nothing then we try his way for a while and I keep my opinions to myself.
He leads with me and neither of us is looking to change that. Not looking for anybody in town for a season, which is entirely my rule and he has agreed to it. Not looking for four people who all want to be somewhere else by eleven. And if you write, say which of us you are.
