Sober, and this city has made that inconvenient

Two years without a drink. In most places that is a private detail. Here it removes about ninety percent of the available social calendar, because everything is at a bar, at a party, on a boat with a cooler, or at somebody's place where the first act is pouring.
Thirty four, South Beach, dominant, ten years in.
I am not evangelical and I do not care what anybody else drinks in their own time. What I will not do is be responsible for another person in a scene where either of us has been drinking, and I hold that absolutely, which has surprised two people who assumed it was flexible after a good dinner.
What I want is an ongoing dynamic, seen twice a week, with real structure between meetings. I am attentive to a degree people find unnerving at first. I notice when somebody's messages change shape. Ten years of doing this while paying close attention has given me a decent instinct for when a person is saying they are fine and is not.
I am aware that in this city a post like this reads as a much older man's post. I am thirty four. I go to the beach at six in the morning instead of eleven at night and my life is considerably better for it.
If a sober evening sounds like a downgrade, we would only disappoint each other.
