We are thirty four and thirty six, together eleven years, married for seven, a flat in the south west that we will be paying for until we are old. Six years ago one of us said something difficult on a Sunday and the other one turned out to have been waiting for years to hear it.
Since then it has been ours, entirely, at home, and it has been very good. It has also been completely sealed off. Not one friend, not one family member, nobody. And what we have slowly worked out is that the sealing is now the problem rather than the thing being sealed.
What we would like is to know another couple. That is the whole request. Dinner, conversation, the enormous relief of being able to finish a sentence. We have no idea how any of this works socially because we have never been part of it, and we suspect that is true of far more people here than admit it.
We are not looking for a third person and we have talked about it at length and it is settled. If, after a long time, something happened between the four of us because everybody wanted it, we would not rule it out. It is not the reason for the post and nobody should assume it.
He follows, she leads, and that has been the arrangement since the beginning. Not looking for anyone who wants to meet only one of us. Not looking for a couple where one half is being brought along. Not looking to be anybody's introduction to the whole thing, since we would be no use at it.
