I rent a room from a family, which decides more than you would think

A room in a flat belonging to a couple who are perfectly kind and who are also always there, always, including the whole of the weekend. I come in, I say good evening, I go to my room. That is my housing situation and it is not changing until my income does.
Twenty five, switch, the north, a year into taking any of this seriously. I moved here for a job that pays exactly enough to live and not one thing more. I know that makes me an awkward proposition: I cannot host, I cannot pay for much, and I am new at the actual practice of this even though I have read myself half blind about it.
What I do have is a great deal of time and no other commitments at all, and I am prepared to travel anywhere at any hour rather than have somebody come to me.
What I want is one person, patient, to build something slowly with. I want both sides of it eventually. Right now I want to be led, mostly because I would like to see it done properly by somebody who knows how before I try any of it myself.
I read this board for eight months before writing anything, which I gather is normal here. Not looking for anybody who wants an equal split of costs on things I cannot afford, and I will say so rather than quietly going short. Not looking for someone in a hurry. Not looking to be somebody's cheap option, which I have already been offered twice and declined.
