New to the country, new to the city, would like company at things

- Looking for
- someone to go to socials with while I work out how this city works
- Experience
- Seven years at home, and none at all here.
- Around
- Manhattan, New York
I moved here fourteen months ago from a city on the other side of the Atlantic where I knew everybody in this world and had done for years. Here I know two people, both from work, neither of whom knows any of this about me.
Thirty one, Manhattan, switch, seven years in at home and none here. The thing I underestimated is how much of what I had was context. At home I never had to explain myself, because people had been watching me for years. Here I am a stranger with a strong accent and an unverifiable history, which is fair enough, but it is lonely in a way I did not anticipate.
What I would like first is somebody to go to things with. Socials, discussion evenings, whatever the equivalent is here. I am nervous about turning up alone somewhere I do not know the etiquette of, and I would rather admit that than perform a confidence I do not have.
Beyond that, in time, a dynamic. I switch and I am comfortable leading with someone experienced or following with someone I trust.
Not looking for anyone who wants to be my introduction to the city in a way that leaves me dependent on them. Not looking for a rescue. Not looking for somebody who finds the accent more interesting than the person, which happens more often than you would think.
