I work overnights and my days off move around. What that means in practice is that I will read your message at four in the morning, reply properly, and then vanish for two days because I am asleep at the hours when everybody else is typing.
This has been misread as disinterest three separate times. Once by someone I liked a great deal. Thirty one, the Bronx, submissive, two years in, with one dynamic that lasted nine months and ended for exactly the reason above, when my shift pattern changed and neither of us adjusted to it.
I am looking for something steady rather than frequent. Once a week reliably beats three times in one week and then nothing for a month. I like rules that survive contact with a bad schedule: things I do daily, things I report on, a check in that happens whether or not we can be in the same room.
I would rather be with someone in the Bronx or upper Manhattan than someone in Brooklyn, and I say that with no judgement of Brooklyn at all. It is an hour each way after a twelve hour shift, and I have learned the difference between what I say I will do and what I actually do.
Not looking for anything that needs me to be free in the evening. That is the one thing I cannot give, and it is not negotiable in either direction.
