We are two women in our thirties, together five years, in Paris. One of us is trans, which is the reason we are writing this paragraph and not the reason we are writing the post, and we have gone back and forth about whether to mention it at all. We have decided to, because otherwise it arrives later and becomes an event, and we are extremely tired of it being an event.
She leads. I do not. It has been part of us for three years and it works well, and none of what we want here is about fixing anything.
What we want is friends. People to have dinner with who know. Perhaps, in time, a couple we would see regularly. We have a small circle in this city and we have twice been the interesting item on somebody's evening, and both times we left early and did not go back.
So the thing we are actually asking for is unremarkable treatment. Ask us about our week. Argue with us about something. Let it be dull. We are in the centre, we cook well, we can host, and we are both free most evenings and every Sunday.
We would want to write for a while first. We would want both of you writing. And if you are a couple who has been in this a long time and is fed up with explaining yourselves to newer people, we suspect we would get on, because that is roughly where we are as well.
