From December to March I wrote to somebody every single day. Hundreds of messages, long ones, the best conversation I had that year. We arranged to meet four times and four times something came up, and in April he told me he had never intended to and had said so at the start in a way I had chosen not to hear.
Thirty four, Barra, switch, seven years. I am not angry about it any more and I am not going to do it again.
So the rule now is simple. If we are getting on, we have a coffee inside two weeks, somewhere public, in the daytime, for an hour. If that is not possible then I would rather know immediately, and if what you actually want is a correspondent then say so, because that is a real thing to want and there are people here who want the same.
What I want is a long even switch dynamic. Both directions, protocol on both sides, a routine rather than events. I am easy to get on with and I have no interest in drama of any kind.
I am in Barra, which I know is far from most of you, and I will travel to the centre or the south zone without complaint. Not looking for anybody who needs a month of vetting first. Not looking for a person whose schedule clears up next season. Not looking to do that summer twice.
