What we want is not a third and it is not a couple to play with. It is a small group of people who all know each other properly and see each other regularly, and inside which things sometimes happen and often do not.
We are forty three and forty five, São Paulo, together twelve years, both of us switches, which makes us either the easiest or the most confusing people you will meet this month.
The reason for wanting a group rather than a pair is that we have tried the pair arrangement twice and both times the whole thing rested on four people continuing to feel exactly the same way about each other, which is a lot of weight for any structure. A slightly larger circle takes the weight off. Nobody is anybody's only anything.
So: two other people, or a couple, with a view to it eventually being six of us who have dinner most months.
We are not in a hurry. What we are proposing takes years and we know it. We have one friendship in this that is nine years old and it is the best thing either of us has got out of any of it.
We can host, we are in the west zone, and we are both free most weekends.
We would want everybody talking to everybody rather than couples negotiating with couples, which is the thing that went wrong the second time and which we did not see coming.
