Somewhere around fifty five I stopped enjoying anything that happened after ten at night, and rather than fight it I rebuilt the whole thing around the afternoon. It has been the single best decision I have made in this in three decades.
Sixty, São Paulo, dominant, thirty three years. Retired for two, which is what makes the afternoon possible for me, and which I know makes it impossible for most people reading this.
What an afternoon gives you that an evening does not: light, time, and nobody with an early start. Everything is unhurried. Nothing is squeezed between a working day and the last hour anybody can stay awake. Twice in the last year I have had scenes that ran five hours and finished with dinner at eight, and neither of us was exhausted.
So I am looking for somebody whose weekdays have room in them. The retired, the self employed, shift workers, students, people who work from home with real flexibility. It is a narrow group and I would rather be narrow than pretend I will be any good to you at eleven at night.
What I run is domestic and formal. Standing rules, service, protocol with a purpose, correction that is spoken. Very little impact, and none of it hard.
I live alone in an apartment I have had for thirty years and I can host easily.
I would like to be friends first for a while, which at my age is not a strategy, it is simply how I prefer to spend my time.
