Twelve years in São Paulo and it is still not home

- Looking for
- somebody who makes friends the way we do up north
- Experience
- Fifteen years, both directions, most of it before I moved.
- Around
- the north zone, São Paulo
I came here from Recife at thirty seven for work and I have made a good life and I have never got used to how people meet each other here. Up there, you talk to a stranger and by the end of the afternoon you know their cousins. Here, everybody is polite, everybody is busy, and it takes eight months to be invited anywhere.
Forty nine, São Paulo, switch, fifteen years in this. Most of my experience is from before I moved, in a much smaller circle where everybody knew everybody and there was nothing anonymous about any of it.
What I have found difficult here is not the size. It is that this city runs on appointments and I come from a place that runs on turning up. I am aware that this makes me sound like every provincial person who has ever moved to a capital and I have decided to say it anyway.
What I want is one person, over a long time, either direction. I lead slightly more. I am interested in service and structure and I have no appetite for anything performed.
I am also frankly looking for friends, and I am putting that in the post because I have stopped being embarrassed about it at forty nine.
I live alone in the north of the city, I can host, and my hours are ordinary.
If you also arrived here from somewhere warmer and have spent years being told you are too familiar with strangers, write to me. We will get along in the first ten minutes.
