A cold terrace, one bathroom, and a neighbour on the other side of the brick

We rent a two bedroom terrace with one bathroom, a kitchen last renovated some time in the seventies, and a heater we run for about an hour a night because of what it does to the bill. It is May, it has turned, and we are both wearing everything we own.
Thirty four and thirty six, the inner west, together seven years, three of them with this in it.
We are looking for another couple. Not a third, and we have discussed it enough times to be confident about that. What we actually want first is to know people. We have precisely one friend who knows anything about this and she lives overseas, and the amount of our life that cannot be discussed with anybody has started to feel like a problem in its own right.
We can host for dinner and conversation. We cannot host for anything beyond that, because of the terrace, the bathroom and the neighbour whose bedroom is on the other side of a very old brick wall.
He leads with me and neither of us has any interest in changing that. Not looking for a couple where only one of them is really involved, which we have met twice and both times it was uncomfortable for everybody. Not looking to arrange anything before all four of us have eaten a meal together. Not looking for anybody who suggests a weekend away as a first meeting, which happened in March and startled us both.
